The Stravinsky evening: Petrushka
Stravinsky created a love triangle about three puppet theatre dolls, their relationships, and jealousy. The ballet, intended as a concerto piece for piano and orchestra, has a colourful score based on Russian folk music. Johan Inger takes Petrushka’s story into a new setting: Petrushka is a mannequin abandoned in a shop warehouse, who falls in love with a ballerina. Inger’s Walking Mad was a huge audience favourite at the Finnish National Ballet from 2008 to 2013. Petrushka had its world premiere at the Monte Carlo Ballet in 2018.
